Save our ABC Canberra Rally

In December the Government will make it’s Mid Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) announcement. The MYEFO is essentially a mini budget where the Government may make spending adjustments following its May Budget. Abbott Government Ministers have confirmed that the ABC will face deep cuts in its upcoming MYEFO announcement. Leading up to the Government’s MYEFO announcement, the CPSU and the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) have been working on a public campaign against ABC funding cuts.

We need to make it very clear to the Government that the Australian public will not accept further attacks on our national broadcaster; and this means we need you, your family and your friends to come out and show your love for the ABC! The “Our Stories Our Future Our ABC” campaign is being launched with a series of rallies and community events around the country.

There will be an event in each capital city and in several regional centres where the ABC has a local presence. Federal Opposition leader Bill Shorten MP, deputy leader Tanya Plibersek and leaders from the Australian arts and journalism communities will be addressing these events, as well as speakers from the CPSU and MEAA.
